Virginia Lee Hunter, Cinematography
Virginia Lee Hunter is an award winning photojournalist and film maker, based in St Louis Missouri. Her images have appeared in national and international magazines and newspapers. Among her clients are labor and environmental groups such as Greenpeace, the AFL-CIO, and SEIU. Her personal interest is exploring human-interest topics with a social-anthropological edge. In 2007, Virginia published a book of her images called ‘Carny: Americana on the Midway’ published by Umbrage Editions and bronze winner of the 2007 IPPY awards in Pop Culture. Carny: Americana on the Midway is a look at both the pop and sub culture of America’s favorite past time, the carnivals at county fairs. This book of images was the inspiration for the documentary CARNY where Virginia was Director of Photography. ‘CARNY’ is currently airing on the Sundance Channel in the US, TV Ontario in Canada, and More 4 In the UK and has had a successful festival run winning Best Documentary at Brooklyn International Film festival in 2007.
Other film documentaries Virginia has credit on include, ‘Fomble Tok- Tarmac productions’(sound and second camera currently in post production) and ‘The History of St Louis Bricks’(camera and currently in production).
Virginia also teaches documentary photography at the University of Missouri St.Louis.
